At the request of Freeed users, we have opened a marketplace on Freeed, where teachers sell self-produced, original teaching and learning materials. This allows for the sharing of extensive and polished content in a way that the teacher receives financial compensation for their work. Both teachers and schools are buyers of these materials.
Thanks to the newly opened marketplace, Freeed now has an even better selection of pedagogically high-quality and comprehensive materials that help teachers cater to the needs of different learners.
Do you want to sell materials in Freeed’s marketplace?
The selection in the teachers' web store is growing rapidly, and we welcome all creators who are enthusiastic about making teaching and learning materials. If you are interested in selling materials, please contact us using the form found below.
The online store offers materials suitable for all subjects and educational levels. Mostly, the materials sold are distributed in PDF format, but the sale of videos and training is also possible. All materials for sale are pedagogically high-quality and carefully produced. We assist every teacher who becomes a seller in ensuring pedagogical quality.
You can explore the selection in the online store here: https://www.freeed.com/?tab=premium
If you have high-quality content that you would like to sell on Freeed, please fill out the form below, and we will contact you.
Will Freeed become entirely paid service?
No. Freeed currently has over 8000 pieces of content shared by teachers, and only a fraction of these are paid. Previously, the service rarely shared extensive material packages or complete sets, although many teachers produce such for their own use. Now, thanks to the web store, they have become available to everyone for a small fee. The web store has also increased the number of creators of free materials, and in addition, it contributes to the continuity of Freeed's development work.
Therefore, we believe that although Freeed mainly offers free materials, paid materials also have an important place in ensuring the quality and sustainability of the service.
How do paid and free materials differ from each other?
Paid materials are primarily more extensive and very carefully finished to ensure their pedagogical value and usability are of the highest standard. Although the ideas shared for free are also great and of high quality, users can publish them independently, and Freeed does not set quality criteria for them, unlike for the paid materials.
How to become a seller in the teachers' online store?
Becoming a seller requires the following steps:
- Contact the administrators of the online store (contact form above and at the end of the page)
- Read and sign a distribution agreement (we will send the agreement after your contact)
- Submit the materials (or drafts) for sale to the online store administrators via email
- Freeed checks the pedagogical quality and may suggest improvements
- Finalize the materials and product description based on the feedback and set a price for the material
- Freeed publishes the materials you produce in the online store according to a mutually agreed schedule.
Freeed acts as the distributor of the material and the intermediary for payment against a 30% sales commission. The copyright remains with the creator of the material, who is responsible for ensuring the legality of the material. Teachers can produce materials with tools of their choice, on their own schedule.
Popular tools among sellers include MS Office tools, Canva, and the material editor found in Freeed. It is the seller's responsibility to ensure that the contents used in the material can be utilized for commercial purposes. Any restrictions are usually clearly listed on the tool provider's website.
Can I Produce Material with Canva? Canva is a very popular tool for creating materials. Terms of use may update frequently, so you need to ensure yourself that you do not violate the terms of use of the tools you are using. You can find Canva's terms of use from the links below:
- https://www.canva.com/licensing-explained/ (this link provides information if you are using Canva with an Education license)
Does Freeed Have Requirements on How Often and What Kind of Material I Should Produce? No. You can produce material on a schedule that suits you and create content that you believe is in demand among teachers and schools. You can find the quality criteria for content further down on this page.
Do I Need a Business ID to Sell Material on Freeed? No. Some sellers invoice their sales proceeds to their own companies, but currently, we can also pay the sales proceeds to you as work compensation income, for which withholding tax is deducted for the tax authority during payment.
How Do I Deliver the Materials for Sale to Freeed? Currently, materials must be delivered via email. In the future, we will enable independent uploading of materials, but we will still check the materials before they appear in the online store.
Can I Sell Materials Made with Freeed's Editor? Yes. You can freely use the fonts, images, and other materials found in the Editor. However, remember that the material must be produced by you from scratch.
How does selling and buying occur?
The online store's selection is visible to thousands of teachers every day. Products for sale are displayed on Freeed's homepage, and each seller's individual products can be found on their Freeed profile page.
Buyers can get a closer look at different materials through preview images and product descriptions. The creator of the material is responsible for writing the product description, and the price is also determined by the seller.
The store's customers are teachers, and the payment is made either by the school or the teacher themselves. For schools, the payment method is a purchase code, which allows teachers to make purchases independently. Read more about the schools' purchase code here.
After paying for the product, the buyer receives a download link to the material via email, and the material can also be downloaded from the buyer's own Freeed profile page, under the "purchases" tab.
Quality Criteria
Pedagogically high-quality and user-friendly content is an effective way to ease a teacher's daily life and help them meet the needs of diverse learners. The following quality criteria guide our assessment of paid educational materials:
1. Learning Objectives: Each material must contain clear, meaningful, and target group-relevant (according to the National Core Curriculum) learning objectives.
2. Pedagogy: Materials should guide teachers and students in a pedagogically appropriate manner that supports the achievement of set learning objectives.
3. Usability: Materials should be succinctly written, easy to understand, and visually appealing.
4. Copyrights and Originality: Materials must be original, non-plagiarized, including necessary references. Images must be copyright-free and comply with relevant laws and regulations.
5. Material’s “stand-alone” Functionality: Materials should function independently without excessive need for external resources. References to additional materials, such as Kahoot quizzes or book recommendations, are permitted, but they should not be overly dominant.
6. Use of Tools: Elements used in materials should be created with tools that allow their commercial use.
7. Material Format: The recommended format for paid materials is PDF, but other file formats are also acceptable. A single material can consist of several separate files.
Can I include links to external resources, such as YouTube?
The material should function as a stand-alone content, meaning the role of external links should not be so significant that without them the material would be clearly deficient. Also, note that, for instance, a lot of content on YouTube is not permitted to be shown in classrooms due to copyright protection.
Can I include tasks in the material that are based on literary works? For example, can I include an excerpt from a children’s book and instruct students to draw a picture related to the excerpt?
No, unless you have permission from the author of the work to use that specific quote. Using literary works created by others as part of educational material generally always requires permission from the author. Why is it beneficial to become a seller?
Educational materials play a central role in schools and in the daily lives of students. A good teacher can reach a limited number of students in a day, but good educational material can positively impact the results of thousands of students every day.
Publishing materials in the online store makes it possible for anyone with enthusiasm, skills, and a desire to learn to create sellable content. Freeed offers support to the seller in creating the material, a distribution channel, a wide customer base, and handles the payment transactions. We believe that teachers and students need a broader range of different educational materials at their disposal to make learning as effective and meaningful as possible. The online store offers an easy option for a teacher to become a creator of teaching and learning materials and to earn compensation for their work.
Although the online store is still in its very early stages, we already see that some sellers are earning significant monthly incomes with their materials. Without Freeed's online store, these broader materials, which form the basis of these earnings, would currently only be used by the creators themselves. Even though Freeed has a lot of free materials available, we feel that there is also a place for paid materials in our service. It makes broader materials accessible to everyone and helps the creators of the materials receive the compensation they deserve for their work.
Throughout history, the best teaching and learning materials have been made by teachers, and we believe that every teacher has something to offer in producing motivating material. We hope you will join us!
